Members and guests of Dudley and District Business Club were encouraged by inspirational speaker, John Flanner, at last months Club meeting, to succeed by appreciating people. John, who lost his sight at 19 through a rare hereditary condition, drew on lessons from his experiences of overcoming problems around blindness.

Denise Meredith, secretary of the club, said: "He was engaging when speaking about his journey after losing his sight, to write a book and become a speaker. He taught us how we should never give up when times get tough and that it is possible to do things which seem impossible, when people are encouraged to try.”

The talk reflected the clubs support for their chosen charity, the Stourbridge Resource Centre of the Pocklington Trust, which supports people with sight loss. Funds are being raised toward a sensory garden for people at the Resource Centre to grow vegetable and flowers.

Club members help those starting out to gain from others’ experiences, around negotiating and closing deals. The club, membership £25 a year, meets the third Tuesday of each month, for networking. Cost is £10 for first visitors: Booking is essential via www.ddbc.co.uk
